What match preferences do
Your match preferences tell LDS Singles the kind of people you want to meet. We use them to decide who to show you first and most often, especially in Recommended.
As the Match Preferences screen says, preferences show you people who match your vibe, but they're not strict and you will see other people too. For more on why, see Why am I seeing people outside my match preferences?
How to change your preferences
- Go to Preferences.
- Update any preference under Basics, Faith, or Relationship Goals.
- Your changes apply to the profiles you are shown from then on.
To set your location or adjust the Distance slider, see How do I change my location or distance settings?

Changing your gender preference
Your gender preference is who you are shown. To change it, select Settings or My Profile (your profile icon), then Match Preferences, then Gender Preference, and update the gender you're seeking. You can also go straight to Match Preferences.
If your results do not look right
- Try widening your distance or age range. A narrow range empties your pool faster, which means you see more people outside your preferences, not fewer.
- Discover deliberately shows profiles outside your preferences, and Liked You shows anyone who liked you. See How does Discover work?
- If your results are far outside anything you would expect, contact Customer Support with the preferences you have set and whether you are on the app or the website.
